Full course description
Drone/Data Science Summer Boot Camp – Become an AI Detective!
July 27th, 2026 - July 30th, 2026
This 4-day summer camp introduces high school students (grades 9–12) to artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and drone-based applications through hands-on, real-world activities.
Students will take on the role of “AI detectives” and investigate real-world scenarios using drones and AI tools. They will learn Python basics, explore data, and build simple object detection models.
As part of the program, students will design drone missions, collect real-world data, and apply AI techniques to solve practical problems such as locating targets or analyzing environments.
No prior coding experience is required. Lunch and a camp T-shirt are included.
What Students Will Do
In this camp, students will:
- Learn Python and AI fundamentals
- Explore data and build simple machine learning models
- Plan and fly drone missions
- Collect and analyze real-world data
- Work in teams on a real-world project
Students will also learn key mathematical ideas behind AI, such as models, data, and optimization.
Final Project Experience
Students will work in teams to solve a real-world challenge using AI and drones — from defining the problem to collecting data, building models, and testing their solutions.
Camp Highlights
- Live drone flight demonstrations
- Hands-on AI and coding workshops
- Build and test your own AI models
- Final team project and presentations
- Certificates and awards for top teams
- Learn directly from university faculty and researchers
