ASPIRE Semester 2, Course 12: Grouping and Collaborative
July 10th, 2025

Course 12: Grouping and Collaborative Learning is the second course of Semester 2 in the ASPIRE to Teach Two-Year Program in the College of Education.

This course examines what collaborative learning is, how to structure flexible, purposeful, and random groupings (e.g., activity-based, class session, workshop, or project) to engage all students meaningfully, and how to connect grouping choices to learning objectives while monitoring participation. Candidates will learn effective assessment strategies—both formative and summative—for group work, explore practical methods like jigsaw, mixed vs. homogeneous teams, and cueing, and understand the benefits and trade‑offs of different grouping approaches. Additionally, there are 20 clinical hours required, which complement the instructional hours of the Grouping and Collaborative Learning course.
