January 20th, 2026
This course delves into the essentials of assessing student learning, emphasizing the alignment of assessments with student learning outcomes (SLOs) through the development and use of rubrics, checklists, and learning contracts. Participants will explore both formative and summative methods - such as bell work, exit slips, self- and peer-assessments, and authentic, performance-based tasks - while learning to distinguish between evaluation and assessment and communicate results effectively with students and families. Assessment and screening of early reading difficulties and the use of multi-dimensional, ongoing, and performance-based assessments are emphasized as tools of equity, reflection, and instructional improvement.
