ASPIRE Semester 3, Course 17: STEM Instruction

Course 17: Using STEM to Support Instruction is the 2nd course of Semester 3 in the ASPIRE to Teach program in the College of Education.
This course equips educators to strengthen STEM-based instruction with a focus on conceptual understanding, real-world applications, and equitable, data-informed teaching strategies.
Track 17A: Mathematics Knowledge & Practices (P–6)
Empowers educators (P–3 and K–6) to deepen mathematics content knowledge and develop instructional practices through Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI). Candidates will analyze student thinking, use data to identify and address learning gaps, and implement strategies for both intervention and enrichment. Emphasis is placed on developing pedagogical content knowledge (PCK), strengthening mathematical reasoning, and building equitable math learning environments for diverse learners.
Track 17B: STEM Across the Curriculum (Grades 7–12)
Guides educators to integrate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics across secondary disciplines using inquiry-based and project-based learning. Candidates will explore cross-curricular STEM applications, build interdisciplinary units, and embed problem-solving practices that promote collaboration, critical thinking, and career readiness in diverse classrooms.
