Candidates will explore how to scaffold disciplinary vocabulary, sentence structures, discourse routines, and functional language through explicit oral and written instructional strategies. Emphasis is placed on developing pedagogical content knowledge aligned with students’ grade levels:
- P–3 & K–6 Educators: Focus on foundational literacy supports such as phonics, fluency, vocabulary development, and oral language.
- 7–12 Educators: Focus on discipline-specific academic reading and writing skills—such as interpreting graphs in science, constructing historical arguments, or using mathematical reasoning in writing.
All candidates will learn to analyze student data, identify linguistic challenges in content-area texts and tasks, and align appropriate supports to enhance student comprehension, participation, and engagement in inclusive classrooms.
