Summer 2026 ASPIRE Semester 2, Course 14: Instructional Strategies & Methods II | May 1st, 2026

This course empowers educators with advanced instructional strategies and methods, centering on creative literacy approaches - such as hands-on experiments, learning centers/stations, word walls, guest speakers, simulations, and role plays - to enrich science and social studies learning in age-appropriate ways. Candidates will learn how to extend learning for advanced learners and design effective modifications and adaptations for remediation, ensuring different support across diverse developmental stages. Instruction will emphasize student-centered pedagogy and the intentional integration of literacy into content-area instruction.

Standards addressed: NJ Professional Standards for Teachers: 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8; CAEP: R1.3; INTASC 2,3,4,5,6,7,8.

 

For P–3 Educators (Birth–Age 8) & Elementary Educators (K–6)

Prepares early childhood educators to apply advanced, developmentally appropriate instructional strategies in literacy, science, and social studies. Emphasis is placed on play-based approaches—such as hands-on experiments, learning centers, word walls, guest speakers, and role play—to deepen content understanding while nurturing early language and literacy development. Candidates will also learn to extend learning for advanced young children and implement modifications and adaptations for remediation, ensuring equitable support for diverse developmental needs. Equips candidates with creative instructional strategies to enrich literacy and content-area instruction across the elementary curriculum. Emphasis is placed on the integration of interactive methods—such as cooperative projects, simulation games, thematic learning centers, and inquiry-based units—to engage all learners. Candidates will design lessons that differentiate for advanced learners and provide scaffolds and supports for students with IEPs, language differences, and varying academic needs.

For Secondary Educators (7–12)

Focuses on active instructional strategies that promote student engagement, higher-order thinking, and literacy integration across secondary subject areas. Candidates will implement methods such as debate, simulation, group investigation, and project-based learning to support content mastery. The track emphasizes planning for differentiation, with attention to supporting students with IEPs, multilingual learners, and those needing academic enrichment or remediation within a content-specific framework.
